Search Words: How Do I find What People Are Looking For?

You aren’t getting clicks because your audience isn’t asking what you are telling them. It is not because people don’t want to buy what you’re selling, this is the internet we are talking about, people have bought entire islands online. It’s because your website isn’t telling them what they want to know in order to want to buy. By finding out what people are asking, you can easily build up your website, marketing strategy and social media around “popular demand”.
But where do you go to find that out?
The first place to go is Google Trends, this is a free tool brought to you by Google that actually allows you to search what people are searching for. It’s really easy to use and can get you some very specific information – like key words.
By finding out what key words you should be using, you can ensure that those specific key words are repeated throughout your copy on your website. This is very important for your SEO, and let us not forget that repeating certain words will form a bond between your audiences memory and your brand, so it is very important that you choose wisely.
How though?
- Go to Google Trends and make sure that the geo is set to your correct country – this will be set in the top left hand corner of the page, it is the first option there so you can’t miss it.
- Begin entering search terms or topics that surround your business and industry in the search bar in the middle of the page.
- Make a list of these key words and their data for comparison
- Narrow the list down until you have a hand full of key words that you can very subtly repeat throughout your website – I say subtly not to seem shady, but rather to keep it easy to read without annoyance. Nobody likes clickbait.
